FoodCorps is a nationwide team of leaders that connects kids to real food and helps them grow up healthy. The centerpiece of their work is an AmeriCorps youth service program that launched in 2011. Service members invest a year of paid public service teaching kids about healthy food and where it comes from, building and tending school gardens, and sourcing local food for school meals in high-obesity, limited-resource communities. Within a decade, FoodCorps expects to deploy an annual service force of more than 1,000. FoodCorps hopes and expects they will have a significant impact on some of the most pressing issues of our time: childhood obesity, environmental sustainability, and the ways we farm, eat and educate.
