Adrienne Dickey-Merrill

Development Program LeaderWhole Kids Foundation

I never learned about healthy foods until, at age 10, I became clinically obese. That’s when I made a personal decision to lose weight and learn more about good foods. I worked weekly with a nutritionist, changed my eating habits and lost over 40 pounds. This personal journey dramatically changed my life, and drove me toward a health-related career path.

Prior to joining Whole Kids Foundation, I worked for a large health education company and handled fundraising and development for a variety of nonprofit organizations, including the American Heart Association and Friends of the Smithsonian.

What I love most about working for Whole Kids Foundation is developing partnerships with other companies and organizations that are equally invested in our mission of improving children’s health.

With every partnership, we expand our reach and create new opportunities for kids. Together, we can grow more school gardens, deliver more salad bars to schools, give kids more learning experiences centered around food, nutrition and the environment—and inspire more teachers and parents to support a healthier next generation.

My own childhood experiences are proof positive that kids can and will make healthy choices if we just empower them with the knowledge and the tools to do so.
