Rose Avenue Public School
A Whole Kids Foundation garden grant helped students at Rose Avenue build a Hugelkultur bed. What’s that, you say?
Hugelkultur is a gardening method that has been used in Europe for centuries. The German word roughly translates to mean “mound culture.” This method involves planting a garden atop a large mound of woody debris and other organic matter, which breaks down over time into cellulose, a porous material that holds lots of water and releases it to the plants’ roots. Sixth graders at Rose Avenue helped fill the new bed and kindergarteners decorated the edges. Learn more about this story.BACK TO ALL SUCCESS STORIES
