I grew up in a household where multiple generations cooked side-by-side. My mom owned a health food store and I lived across the street from a farm.
My grandma grew up on a farm in Indiana. One of my most memorable food experiences was about 10 years ago when I watched her eat a local, free-range, organic egg. After one bite, she leaned back in her chair and tears welled up in her eyes. “What’s wrong?” I asked. She said: “I haven’t tasted an egg like this since I was a little girl.”
When it comes to food, I believe our grandparents had a lot of things right. That has led me to a path of healthy eating and the simple mantra “eat as close to nature as possible.”
Prior to joining the Whole Kids Foundation team, I was healthy eating specialist at Whole Foods Market’s flagship store in Austin, Texas. It was my job to educate the local community about health food. I provided hundreds of cooking classes and demonstrations for schools, churches and businesses, and had the opportunity to work with some of the country’s top chefs.
But what I love most is working with kids and food, which makes Whole Kids Foundation the ideal place to work.
