In 2012, the Madison school district’s school lunch program was just like thousands of others in America, until they opened their cafeteria doors to television cameras filming HBO’s obesity documentary series, The Weight of the Nation.

It was a healthy turning point for Madison, which committed to improving the overall health of the community. City leaders and citizens worked together to make quick change happen in schools—starting with salad bars. Their first 15 salad bars, granted through our Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program, will be used to train cafeteria staff and determine the best strategy for adding salad bars to the rest of the schools in the district. Watch below to see the excitement at Falk Elementary School when the salad bar arrived!
