We eat with our eyes first, so creating colorful, visually appealing dishes is another step toward healthy eating! Our three principles of healthy eating is an overall guide toward eating a nutrient-dense diet. As one of the principles, we encourage eating a rainbow of colors to get different vitamins and micronutrients from a wide variety of different colored vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains.

Build a Bowl

Bowls are great way to eat a rainbow because you can pack in all sorts of colorful, healthy, flavorful ingredients. And if you have done some planning and prepping, bowls can be quick and easy to assemble.

In addition to ingredients you may have already prepped, remember ingredients like canned beans, artichoke hearts, olives, frozen veggies and whole grains can be great additions.

Building a colorful bowl is adaptable to get all kinds of flavors. Make it your own and experiment with some flavor profiles that you are used to.
